What is AmpCamp?

AMP CAMP is an innovative summer modern band camp at the University of Northern Iowa School of Music. 

Who can attend AmpCamp?

Amp Camp is a music camp for ALL CHILDREN, ages 9-18. No previous musical experience needed.​ We invite students of all abilities.

ALL MUSIC STYLES

What kind of music?

Hip-hop, R&B, rock, pop, metal, country, alternative, punk etc. The students pick their own music.

ALL SKILL LEVELS

How much experience does the student need?

None or a lot! AmpCamp is open to students of all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Many students have never played in a rock band or hip-hop group before. Now is the time!

What instruments do the students learn?

All students will learn the basics of:
  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Drum set
  • Keyboard
  • Singing​/rapping
Students will take classes on the instrument they want to focus more on. 
​In addition, everyone learns some basic dance moves to use on a stage. 

Do the students need to bring their own instruments or does AmpCamp provide instruments?

Registration includes use of all AmpCamp instruments. AmpCamp provides ALL INSTRUMENTS for the students at no added cost. Everyone is welcome to bring their own instrument to play.

ALL ABILITIES

Is the camp inclusive and welcoming to students with special needs?

Yes! At AmpCamp, our goal is to make the camp as inclusive as possible. That means that students of ALL abilities are welcome to come enjoy making music they love. AmpCamp uses assistive technology so that students of all abilities can make music together.

When is the camp?

August 8-12, 9am-4:00 pm.
Students can come as early as 8:30am.
Students can stay as late as 4:30 pm as long as they are practicing music by themselves or with others. At check-in, parents will notify camp staff if students are staying late to practice.

What is included with tuition?

  • Instruction on all instruments
  • Instruments are provided. But campers can bring their own
  • T-shirt
  • ​Daily afternoon snack
  • ​Performing in end of camp JamFest
This is a Day Camp
The camp is from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday
There is no overnight housing available for AmpCamp

What about lunch?

Lunch is not included in tuition
We walk to Maucker Union Food Court for lunch each day.
Two options for lunch:
  1. Students can bring their own lunch. A refrigerator is available for students to store their lunches.
  2. Bring money to purchase lunch in Maucker Union Food Court. Food costs in Maucker are similar to those found in a fast food  or convenience store.
